American Legion Scholarships

The American Legion offers a number of scholarships and other resources to assist young people in their pursuit of higher education. Each year, the Legion facilitates the awarding of millions of dollars in scholarships to high school students. There are opportunities for everyone, including kin of wartime veterans and participants in Legion programs.

Scholarship information for Richland American Legion Post 548 INC:

 Schleiden Family Memorial Scholarship for $3K                

The Richland American Legion Post 548 SCHOLARSHIP is sponsored by the “Raymond P.  Schleiden – Family”  

 To be Eligible for this Scholarship the applicant must be a: 

• Descendent of an American Legion Member     -OR-     
• Recently Deceased Member of The American Legion  

from either: 

• The Richland American Legion Post 548 
• The Mars American Legion Post 787 

Specific Criteria to be selected for this competitive Scholarship are:

1. Academic Accomplishments
2. Extracurricular Activities
3. Faith-Based Participation
4. Community Volunteer Service
5. Participation in American Legion Activities
6. Original Written Essay on the Topic – “What Do the Principles of AmericanismMean to Me”?
7. Letter of Recommendation from a MILITARY VETERAN

 These six Criteria are Scored on a Rubric by the POST / Family Scholarship Committee to determine the scholarship winner.

This Scholarship is intended to give-back to the children and or grandchildren of the military veterans in our local community.
